How to find the best vacation rental experience:
When to go & When to book:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Book your Havelock vacation in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- In the Havelock area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.
Choosing the best vacation rental:
- First and foremost, have your family agree to vacation dates and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Oceanfront, First-Floor Condo with Balcony, Ocean View & Shared Pools\/Tennis has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you reserve your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's a specific Havelock attraction you long to visit, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges may be applied to your contract.
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
