Rental booking tips and tricks:
Get the most from your budget:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many property management companies supply Havelock area visitors guides which include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and pick the rightvacation home:
- Start by choosing a vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Oceanfront with heated private pool (optional),beach access, close to town center has 9 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Havelock rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of issues.
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great time? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
