Tricks and tips to get the best vacation property experience:
Finding the best value:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to choose the best rental home:
- Begin by choosing your a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. One More Drift- Sound Front Home in Atlantic Beach, NC has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before you reserve the property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Tips to have a great stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect your property!
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the rental manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to drive future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
