Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental experience:
Find your best deal:
- To find the best value, consider shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Filter your search:
- First, have your group select trip dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. A Perfect 10- Oceanside Home in Atlantic Beach, NC has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Havelock rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before reserving the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a great time? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
