Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Many management companies supply Havelock area travel guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Narrow your Search:

  • Start by choosing your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Sea Spray 201 - Walk to the beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you book the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what is best for your vacation family.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.

Know before you go:

  • Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • During arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to stimulate more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
