Tips to get the best vacation home experience:
Getting the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Reserve your rental property in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have discounts for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Narrow your Search:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Single level, Interior home with Private Pool and Golf Cart in Spinnaker's Reach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Havelock rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before booking the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your group.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a excellent time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
