Tricks and tips to get the best vacation home experience:
When to visit Emerald Isle & When to reserve a Emerald Isle rental home:
- Summertime is high season in Emerald Isle. To get the best value, try changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer rate reductions for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have deals for local accommodations and attractions.
Make a plan and pick your prefectrental:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Sounds Perfect - Bright and airy sound front home w\/dock. 2 blocks to the beach! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property owner before you book the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a particular Havelock attraction you crave, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the host immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
