Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental home experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Make a plan and pick the best Havelock vacation home:
- Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and select a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Sounds Perfect - Bright and airy sound front home w\/dock. 2 blocks to the beach! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you book your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs could be applied to your contract.
More tips for your visit:
- Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
