Our top Vacation rental tips:
Getting the most from your budget:
- Summer months are high season in Emerald Isle. To get the best value, shift your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose your vacation dates and budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Spacious 2nd row half duplex in Emerald Isle! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a specific Havelock attraction you are crazy about, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- During arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
