Tricks and tips to get the best vacation property experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Summer months are high season in the Havelock area. To get the best value, try changing your family's Havelock vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
  • In the Havelock area, The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Filter your search:

  • Select vacation week and budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Sunset Cottage - Emerald Isle, NC has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property manager before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what is best for your vacation.
  • Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
  • Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
