Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
When to go & When to reserve a rental home:
- Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To get the best value, consider changing your family's Havelock trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- In the Havelock area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Many management companies supply Havelock area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to choose and book the perfect Havelock rental:
- Select a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Sward Shack: 4 BR, 3.5 BA Townhouse in Atlantic Beach, Sleeps 9 has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Havelock vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the owner's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- During check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many difficulties.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
