Tricks and tips to get the best rental experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- Summer is high season in the Havelock area. To find the best value, change your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking a perfectrental home:
- Choose a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. The High Tide Hideaway- Direct Sound front , pool, steps to beach has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a great vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
