Our top Emerald Isle rental property booking tips and tricks:
Get the best rental value:
- Summer is high season in Emerald Isle. To get the best value, consider changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to pick the best vacation rental:
- Start by selecting your trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Witt's Inn, Soundfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 7 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Havelock rentals search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your family.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Advice for a great stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. Contact the host immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
