Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation home experience:
Find your best deal:
- To get the largest rental within budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite Havelock restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Havelock area visitor guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Filter your rental search:
- Begin by choosing your a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. SUMMER DEAL! PRICE DROP ON THIS GORGEOUS CONDO! ENJOY ALL THE AMENITIES! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property owner before reserving the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your family.
- If there's a particular Havelock attraction you long to visit, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. Call the host immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of issues.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
