Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Reserve your Havelock rental home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Choose a group leader, select your dates, and select a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Beautiful 1 Bedroom Suite at the Beach! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available online. If they are not listed, contact the host before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your group.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or might be applied to your agreement.
More tips for your stay:
- Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect your property!
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a great time? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
