Strategies to get the perfect vacation property experience:

Getting the most from your rental home budget:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best value, try changing your family's Havelock vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Havelock area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

How to pick the perfect vacation rental:

  • Start by selecting trip dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. 4BR Ocean Front Duplex - off Coast Guard Rd! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. If not, email the property owner before booking the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
  • If there's a specific Havelock destination you long to visit, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Tips for a fantastic stay:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Upon check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peace. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a excellent vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
