Strategies to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
When to book a Havelock rental & When to go:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Reserve your Havelock vacation home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Choosing the best vacation rental in Emerald Isle:
- Choose your vacation week and max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Emerald Isle at it's best at Sea Maiden West!! Renovated BEACHFRONT home!! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Havelock rental home search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. If not, email the property manager before booking the home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or applied to your agreement.
Advice for your stay:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
