Our top Emerald Isle rental home tips and tricks:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • Summer time is high season in the Havelock area. Booking your Havelock vacation home in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • In the Havelock area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Havelock area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Begin by selecting potential vacation weeks and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Flamingo Point - Relax as if you were in your own Home has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before booking the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
  • Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.

More considerations:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
  • To make sure no damages are attributed to your family's visit, note any problem areas upon check in. text the rental manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
