Our top Vacation rental home tips:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Havelock area. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Choosing the perfect rental:
- Choose a group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Indigo Blue, Oceanside House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking pages. If not, call the property manager before booking the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of problems.
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
