Tips to get the very best vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- To find the largest vacation home within budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Havelock restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Selecting and booking the perfect Havelock rental:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Knot A Care, Oceanside House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before reserving your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your contract.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, record any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the host immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
