Our top Emerald Isle rental home booking tips and tricks:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- To get the best value, consider shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Havelock area travel guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Start by choosing a vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Listen to the waves! View from 2 levels! Gorgeous sandy beach! 2 pools! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property owner before you book the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
Tips to have a great stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
