Tips to get the optimal vacation property experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- In the Havelock area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Summertime is high season in the Havelock area. Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to choose and book your prefect Havelock rental:
- Select dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Middle of the Row Duplex, Quiet, and Cozy, 3 bed\/2 bath has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before booking the home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
- At Check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
