Tricks and tips to get the optimal Havelock rental home experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have deals for nearby tours and attractions.
How to pick the best rental in the Havelock area:
- First, have your group decide on trip dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. 5+4 Heated Pool Home, Steps from Beach, Bonus Ground Floor Apartment has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. Otherwise, call the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- To make certain no damages are attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to stimulate more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
