Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation rental experience:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in Emerald Isle. To find the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides contain offers and deals for local accommodations and attractions.
Make a plan and pick your prefectvacation home:
- Begin by selecting your trip dates and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Newly built ocean view, stunner w\/pool, elevator has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Havelock rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you book the property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your trip.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or might be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
More tips for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few problems.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
