Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- In the Havelock area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- To find the best value, shift your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guides have deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to select the best rental home in the Havelock area:
- To start, have your family agree to trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Ocean Reef 11-B1, Almost Oceanfront Condo in Emerald Isle, NC! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property owner before you book your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's an individual Havelock destination you simply love, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Know before you go:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few concerns.
- Lock your rental while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to inspire more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
