Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:
When to visit Emerald Isle & When to book:
- The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Summer months are high season in Emerald Isle. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Some owners offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many property management companies supply Havelock area travel guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your Search:
- First, have your family commit to vacation dates and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Oceanfront 8 bedroom\/sleeps 20 with large gathering and outdoor areas has 8 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. Otherwise, call the host before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish which bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's a certain Havelock attraction you are crazy about, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Tips to have a great stay:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
