Tips and Tricks for getting the best vacation property experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To book the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Havelock restaurants, beaches, and activities.
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Filter your search:
- First and foremost, have your group decide on a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. OCEANFRONT 4BR, 2 BA House at the Point! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before booking your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your family.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Add the host's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- During arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many issues.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to drive future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
