Our top Vacation rental home tips:
Finding the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Book your rental home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local Havelock area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Oceanside Home with Elevator in Atlantic Beach, NC! (Once Upon a Tide) has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before you book the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what is best for your family.
- If there's an individual Havelock destination you long to visit, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Advice for a terrific stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
