Strategies to get the optimal vacation property experience:
Find your best deal:
- In the Havelock area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best value, shift your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Choose a group leader, select your dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Oceanside Home with Elevator in Atlantic Beach, NC! (Once Upon a Tide) has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking pages. If not, email or call the property management company before you book the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
