Tips for getting the best vacation property experience:
Get the most from your budget:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Havelock area. To find the best value, consider shifting your family's Havelock vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.
How to choose and book your Havelock vacation home:
- Select a group leader, select your dates, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Oceanfront, Dog Friendly, near the Point, beach & kids' gear, fun decor. has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the host before reserving your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges applied to your agreement.
- If there's an individual Havelock destination you long to visit, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, note any problem areas during arrival. Contact the property manager immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
