Tricks and tips to get the optimal rental experience:
When to go & When to reserve a Havelock rental home:
- In the Havelock area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- June, July, and August are high season in Emerald Isle. Book your rental in Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Havelock area travel guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Start by having your group decide on date ranges and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. SINGLE Family Ocean Front - Howard's Hideaway has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property management company before booking the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Does your group require special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
More tips for your visit:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of issues.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
