Our top Rental booking tips and tricks:

Sticking to your spending plan:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Reserve your vacation home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Havelock visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local shops and restaurants.

Planning, picking, and booking a perfectvacation home:

  • Choose vacation dates and max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. The Mireille - Cozy Atlantic Beach House just a 4 minute walk from the beach! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Havelock rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property manager before reserving the rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your family.
  • If there's a specific Havelock destination you are enamored with, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to propel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
