Finding the best Emerald Isle vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Emerald Isle. To find the best value, shift your family's Havelock vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Some owners offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.
Selecting and booking the perfect Havelock vacation home:
- First and foremost, have your family commit to trip dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Simple Blessings - Soundfront cottage with dock and boatlift - ask for discount has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you book the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your group.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a certain Havelock attraction you simply love, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
Tips for your stay:
- Add the owner's contact info to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
