Tips and Tricks to get the very best vacation property experience:
Money saving strategies:
- The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- To get the best rental home within budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Planning and choosing your Havelock rental home:
- Choose your vacation week and spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Idyllic waterside home with a hot tub, open-concept layout, W\/D, & central AC has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Havelock rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property owner before you book the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what is right for your vacation group.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs applied to your invoice.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of issues.
- Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a excellent stay? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
