Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation property experience:
Money saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Havelock area. To book the best vacation home within budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite Havelock restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Begin by selecting vacation dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Wonderful oceanview condo w\/recently updated kitchen & bathrooms! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- If there's a particular Havelock attraction you simply love, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
