How to get the best vacation rental experience:
When to book a Havelock rental home & When to go:
- The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Book your Havelock rental home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.
Planning, picking, and booking the rightrental:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Blocks to the Beach! Huge Patio & Fenced-In Backyard. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. Otherwise, contact the host before booking your rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what is optimal for your trip.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
Advice for your stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to stimulate new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
