Tricks and tips to get the best Atlantic Beach rental home experience:
Getting the most from your budget:
- Summer is high season in the Havelock area. To find the best value, consider changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select dates and budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Blocks to the Beach! Huge Patio & Fenced-In Backyard. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Havelock vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. Otherwise, email or call the host before you reserve your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation.
- If there's a certain Havelock beach you are crazy about, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Additional considerations:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Upon arrival, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect your property!
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a terrific stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
