Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Havelock vacation home experience:
When to go & When to book:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in the Havelock area. To find the best rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Havelock restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many rental management companies supply Havelock area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning and choosing your Havelock rental:
- Begin by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Darling Cottage Nestled In Our Garden! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is right for your vacation family.
- If your family is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Additional considerations:
- Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
