Our top Rental home tips and tricks:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- To get the best value, consider shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Often, management companies supply Havelock area travel guides which will include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning, picking, and booking yourrental home:
- Begin by selecting a vacation week and a spending budget.

- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

- Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- To make certain that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, note any problem areas during check in. Call the host immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to stimulate new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
