Emerald Isle rental home tips:
Find your perfect rental:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best value, shift your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, , and reduced traffic.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Havelock area travel guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Selecting the best rental:
- To start, have your group choose dates and a maximum budget.
- Heart of EI
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. If they are not listed, call the property manager before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
Considerations for your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of problems.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. message the property manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
