Our top Rental home booking tips and tricks:
When to visit Emerald Isle & When to book:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- To get the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Begin by selecting your vacation dates and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Oceanfront 6 Br, 4 Bath Townhome With Community Pool At End Of B Driveway has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property manager before you book your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
- Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to propel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
