Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

How to get the best value:

  • June, July, and August are high season in the Havelock area. To get the best value, try changing your family's Havelock vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Havelock area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Havelock area travel guide magazines which include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning, selecting, and booking your prefect Havelock vacation home:

  • Choose your vacation dates and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Southwinds A9 Oceanfront Complex Direct Oceanfront has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you book your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If there's a certain Havelock destination you are enamored with, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
  • At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a great time? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
